Among a slew of appointments that President-elect Donald Trump has made over the past week, there are two appointments that stand out as unique. Those appointments are the ones of Vivek Ramaswamy, a former Republican candidate and staunch ally of Trump, and billionaire Elon Musk. The two have been tapped to head the Department of Government Efficiency. This department, which will operate outside of the government, and thus not be a true government agency, was proposed by Musk months ago as a way to cut costs in government and weaken the power of bureaucracy. Trump stated that the Department of Government Efficiency would drive “drastic change” and partner with the White House to slash regulation, cut staff and overhaul operations. The new department could be funded now that Republicans control the House and the Senate. Getting the money approved to fund the agency shouldn’t be difficult. Trump is gearing up for a final historic term. He’s building his team early, and he’s doing it fast. He’s more prepared now than he ever has been before. And he has more people behind him from the start than he had in his first term. Trump’s agenda may be executed swiftly with this newfound support and control of both chambers of Congress. And if Trump does what he says he’s going to do, he’ll have finally proven himself to the left.
