The U.S. Supreme Court recently decided that it would hear TikTok’s final appeal on the law passed by Congress earlier this year that would require it to either shut down operations in the United States by Jan. 19 or divest from its Chinese parent company.
Now let me tell you, is TikTok a national security threat?
Yes, but it’s not just a national security threat because of the very high potential for the company that runs the app to sell extremely sensitive psychological data on Americans, both young and old alike, to the communist Chinese government. It’s also a national security threat in that it is destroying the minds and identities of our youth. Young kids are spending hours upon hours a day scrolling through TikTok videos. It has practically become their identity.
No single application has taken over so many people’s lives and molded them in the way that TikTok has. It has created echo chambers. It has literally caused deaths and it is ruining the minds of young people.
So yes, the China threat is a real problem, but there’s a more serious, immediate threat that TikTok poses to the United States, and that’s its algorithm that’s so effective at keeping kids hooked on the app like a drug and destroying their lives and personalities.
